I'm totally into history and religion, but there is something about the history of the Bible that really gets me goin'! If you have actually read the Bible then you'd see that there is a lot of truth to it. It sheds light on everything that is going on NOW, and it was written so long ago. I wanna know how you feel about the content of the Bible. Do you feel the same way I do? Why or why not?

i think that we see in the bible what was intended for us to see, that things were left out do to the powers that be during biblical times. A lot of the writings take influence from what was going on in that time, like Hammurabi's laws, eye for an eye, golden rule. You can interpret the bible in many ways or take it how you wish, but try studying the historical aspect of it, and what was going on at that time.

There is some historical content in the Bible but a great deal of it is based on hearsay evidence, events that cannot be corroberated and simple superstition.
It does not stand up to the rigorous standards applied these days.

It's pretty cool reading something written almost 3,000 years ago. I worry that a lot has been lost through translation, and things have been added to make it more presentable in today's society. I am not a very religious person, but I like history, and from that aspect it is a pretty good read.

Was'nt that because it was written to reflect the human pysche? As people probably havent changed that much in the way we react and our emotions it would still be relevant today.
It, however, is not an historical document but a collection of stories. I'd be more interested in the bits they left out or suppressed.

I have an interest in archaeology, and indeed, biblical archaeology as well.
I't better to look at the facts since blind faith has never bettered the world. (But faith is a good motivator to try and study whether if "what you've been taught" turns out is true or not. But be prepared it if conflicts with your beliefs whether if you're a believer os a sceptic.)
Ancient civilizations were quite cultured and learning how they lived with their low level of technology day after day is quite interesting.

Yeah, you do have a point. There are a lot of prophecies in the OT that have been fulfilled by Christ. For example, the book of Isaiah is FULL of predictions of the upcoming Messiah (Jesus).

You should subscribe to an archaeology magazine if you're that interested.

I agree. A lot of these atheist ask dumb "why" questions when they have no historical context.
