Microsoft says I don't have a validation and it won't let me download Home Edition. Do I have to format my computer and lose everything? Or how can I avoid that?

You dont have to avoid that; But avoid the warning microsoft did :)
You dont have to format.

if you format, divide your hard disk into two parts (you may use Partition magic program)..And move your document into the other drive.
Goodluck.

Windoz XP Pro is the FULL version. Home Edition has been chopped up and stuff taken out. So Home Edition has less stuff and is less robust. It would be a huge step backwards to undo the PRO Version and install Home Edition.

I can't think of any real reason why anyone would want to do this.

Why do you want XP Home instead of Pro? It's less secure than Pro and has less features.
Anyway, you can't download Microsoft operating systems. You'll have to go out and buy it from a store and waste your money.

Why would you want to do this? Professional is an upgraded version of Home Edition and can do everything that home ed. does.

you would have to purchase MS home and you could choose the OS you want to use in your BIOS screen. however, i advise against spending $100 on XP home if you already have pro because pro does everything XP home can do and more.

You can't download operative systems, you have to get CD's at your computer's manufacturer or call Microsoft to send you a OS CD :)

You have to buy it legally. Back up all your files and then install the Home Edition.
