There's several versions of the song...originally it was "I gave my love a cherry"

I think it was originally titled "Riddlesong". Eddie Arnold sang it.

Addition: You may want to see if you can find the Eddie Arnold version...and I think one of the folk groups in the 60s sang it. I want to say Kingston Trio, but I don't remember...that time is such a blur..... Anyway, Eddie Arnold has such a wonderful voice...I'd start with his and see if you can find them.
