A g-string just has a string for a back. A thong has a wider strip for a back. I guess they are both technically "thongs" but a g-string is the tiniest.

g-strings have the "triangle" looking thing at the top (in the back). thongs r just a thing string straight down from the top (looks like a "T" in the back).

look g string has no triangle in back its just string and thong has string

the similarity is more important: both will be stuck up your a** all day, are unhygienic, will itch, irritate, and possibly trigger yeast infections.
