DETROIT - A federal judge ruled Thursday that the government's warrantless wiretapping program is unconstitutional and ordered an immediate halt to it.

U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit became the first judge to strike down the National Security Agency's program, which she says violates the rights to free speech and privacy as well as the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution.

"Plaintiffs have prevailed, and the public interest is clear, in this matter. It is the upholding of our Constitution," Taylor wrote in her 43-page opinion.

The Justice Department appealed the ruling and issued a statement calling the ruling a slap in the face for Mr Bush.

Some will argue that terrorist have won.

This is not only wrong in fact but kinda sickening.
For one the ability to wire tap has always exsisted with a warrent, or even if an immediate warrent isn't available they can get one 72 hours after the fact, they have secret courts to obtain a warrent.

what bush did was use it to spy on americans. i am not kidding they even spy on peace groups.

This domestic spying began also before 9/11, allow me to repeat that before 9/11.


Today is a victory for the american people and the constitution.

What did you HONESTLY Expect from a Jimmy Carter Judge???? And I wouldn't raise that Victory flag just yet. The case is being appealed. I for one don't understand the problem. The Wire taps were conducted on Incoming calls and Out going calls to and from known terriost states. Did you notice recently that the Brits stopped a MAJOR terriost Plot? Would you have Preferred they NOT wire tapped those caught and had an attack greater than 911? GWB didn't Invent terriost. They even attacked America under your former god Bill Clinton. What exactly did Bill Clinton do to piss the terriost off? I would wish someday you would WAKE UP to the threat that faces America but, I wouldn't wanna waste a Wish.
