I just took a hpt, and it came back negative. The only time I've been late is when I was pregnant (almost 7 years ago). So I was just wondering was it possible for it to be a false negative even though I took the hpt after a missed period?

You can always wait a few more days to see if your period comes on
Then go see a doctor to have bloodwork done

Well you're only a day late so its a bit early to tell.
I guessed I might be pregnant even before I missed a period, I think it was because I felt very "odd". I had been having cramps for over a week, well before they would normally start, my boobs were sore and I felt really nauseous and grotty, and quite emotional. As I wasn't used to feeling this way I guessed something might be up.
My period sort of "started" ion the day it was due (just a little brown spotting) but stopped after a few hours. As this was really weird I did a pregnancy test and it came up positive!!! I got the positive test a day or so after my period was due.
So you can get a positive result this early but it depends if the hormone levels have built up in your urine yet. It is possible to have a false negative if the HcG levels haven't built up enough yet to show in your urine. Its best to test first thing in the morning as well as the hormone levels will be higher then.
You'd need to give it a few more days to see. If you haven't started by next week, test again. Have you had any cramps or signs that your period might be starting?? It might just be a day or so late which is quite normal for most women.

There is a greater chance of a false negative than a false positive.
If you don't have your period in a day or two, take another hpt. That should be more accurate. If you get another negative, I would maybe inquire to my doctor about something possibly being wrong.

Definitely a possibility to have a false negative - and a false positive. Lots of things could cause you to have a late period, even when you're typically 'regular'. If you're really concerned, I'd go see a doctor and get an 'official' pregnancy test.

It's only one day late. I'd really wait a while. I mean sure you can be regular and never late, but this could be the one time you are really late and not pregnant. I'd wait a week and test again first thing in the morning. Or get a blood test from the docs office.

One day is nothing to sweat about..but of course u can get a false negative and false positive. The only way to know for sure is through a blood test from ur doctor.

It is entirely possible, but I would give it a couple of more days before you try to retest to make sure enough of the hcg hormone has built up to be detectable. It is also possible that you miscalculated your cycle, or that some other outside factor has delayed your period.

no.. it's only 1 day late.. calm down and wait a few more weeks. if still late by weeks, then take another hpt ..

It can just be late your system changing. Wait about a week more then go see a doc.

Yes it is possible that you could be pregnant. But your per has a one week span if you are stressed or worried you could be delaying your per. give it til nex t Wed. and take another test if your per hasn't come.
