Every country has reserves that should last them a few months, so a disruption on oil supply for 2 weeks would be a major inconvenience but not a major disaster. The U.S. currently has an inventory (private and public) that can last 118 days. The catch is that it takes about 13 days to get it in the market after presidential decision, so if the supply is all suddenly cut at once, then it would be a major disaster. However, since oil comes from many places (Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Gulf, Venezuela, Nigeria, Middle East), the chances of every single one to stop suddenly at the same time is pretty much zero.

I already take the light rail to work and walk the rest of the way most days, even on days like today when it is 106 degrees here. The light rail is electrical.
The buses mostly run on LNG (liquefied natural gas) fuel, which is different from standard gasoline, and they obviously have their own stations, so the buses would run for a while.
If I had to walk, I could do that too, I'd just plan to leave a lot earlier.
If the crisis is terrorism-related on a 9-11/Katrina scale or larger, things will be bad for us with or without gasoline. We are already not prepared for a major crisis.
I would try to go to work, which in my field, would probably be extra-busy, and try to keep my panic level low.
I see your point though, we should press our government to ensure our preparedness.

I have a three month supply of food in the freezer and the pantry After that hunting season starts.
I would pack my family consolidate gasoline into to one vehicle and head to a rural area where my parents live.
BTW, its not a matter of IF as much as WHEN..
WHEN SHTF the gooberment will be of no use and chaos will be on the loose.

I can not say with certainty what I will do if the situation you described here would happen. Let's cross the bridge when we get there. Just let me state here in response to your question that I will probably do whatever is available and sensible alternative if and when that time comes.

Get into my freezer for food and ride my bike to work. Assuming my office is still open. If it isn't, I go to the farm and get into the canned goods. =)

I live in Los Angeles California. There are other ways to get around, like walking, skating, rollerblading, etcetera. So, my life would be as normal as if it didnt stop.

Luckily, I have friends in th country, where you can light a wood stove, gather food, and pump fresh well water.... sounds primitive,
but in caos, it would be great.
