Why not?!?!? We have been sending out radio waves long enough to be picked up by someone out there...assuming they are there. We want to find out if they have been doing the same. Though it is at the very, very slow speed of light, just imagine the exchange of culture, technology and other advancements we could share both ways.
I believe they are out there and most have had a real head start. I hope what they discover is positive and life giving. If not, maybe we better go back to the telephone and live theater instead of broadcasting. If I were living on a distant world and could see and hear what went on shortly after broadcasting began, I would be rather fearful. On the other hand, maybe, just maybe someone out there has seen how bad things are here and are considering to send us a few suggestions on how to get along better.

Good question. We have no reason to believe they even USE radio transmissions. Maybe they use telepathy. Or some kind of 'subspace'. Radio takes far too long between stars to be of any use for communication.
