I havent known one that doesnt pong after a while. Its a distinctive smell isnt it and hangs around the room for a couple of hours. You can get stuff like fresheners to put in bag or if not just use something like oust after hoovering.

I have a Hoover upright, It never had any kind of smell when being used. I have also repaired Hoover vacuums. Maybe if you could describe the smell it makes, then someone like me could tell you if anything is wrong. If the smell bothers you then take it back and tell them about it and get another. It should not have any smell coming from it.

I had a similar problem and solved it by sprinkling some bicarb of soda on the carpet and hoovered it up. The bicarb stays in the hoover and seems to absorb the smells. Each time you change the bag or empty the bin (if a dyson) then just repeat. Hope it helps:-)

My old one used to when the bag needed changing. You say its not the bag, but have you checked the filters?

i would never have anything but a Dyson from now on. The amount of dust and muck that comes out of an apparently clean carpet is amazing and horrifying. But you empty the container and give it a little wipe if you feel extra housewifely, and no smells ever.

I use these smell good tablets you trow into the bags, also you can put down a carpet deodorizer, which the vac would sweep up and get rid of the smell. Oreck has those tablets. Or, you can put incense or potpourri in the bag. I do that, too. Hope I helped!!

One lady I used to work with would wash the bag from her little hand-vac fairly often. And while this lady and I never really saw eye-to-eye, even I admit that she never got any odd smells from her equipment, unless it truly was going bad.

You might want to clean and air your dust-catcher now and then, and see if that helps with the smell. Otherwise, don't worry about ti since you say it's done that since it was new.

Drip a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil onto a cotton wool ball and put in the bag. Should help mask the smell.

- Something in the bag could be the source of the smell. Try a new bag?

- If it has a height setting you might be setting it too low for the surface you're vacuuming.
