Even if I buy and expensive version from a hardware store, spray bottles always quit working in less than a year. Why is this?

Even if I buy an expensive version from a hardware store, they never last a whole year. What happens to them?

What are you putting in them? Anything other than water or solvents will have ingredients that can build up over time, and clog the orifice.Your tap water may be the culprit too, depending on your water supply.
Try running a solvent through the thing , and see if that clears it up.Be careful though.....Make sure you rinse it thoroughly before you use it again, and DO NOT clean it with anything harsh or industrial if you use it for spraying plants, pets,or people.Use vinegar instead. And of course.....rinse.

I've had a few bottles that have lasted more than a year, but I, too, have noticed that they tend to wear out.

My guess is that the trigger mechanism works loose from the tube that brings the liquid out of the bottle and there is no way to tighten it back again.

For the same reason as light bulbs don't last forever, so that we have to spend more money and keep the companies in business.

The holes get clogged by particles in the water. If you use filtered water they last longer.
