the nose smells stuff before you take it into your mouth. It's like a check point. I wouldn't like to have my nose near my as-s. have you ever seeing check point at the garbage/disposal station? We always know what's come out, and we do not always know what going in...

it dosent like the eyes, and the mouth may try to eat it, and it dont want to fall in an ear, so thats the olny place for it.
