I used to have bad problems with nightmares when i was 3-5 years old. then they left. now i moved in to a new house and ever since ive been having nightmares again, every night. nothing personal, just monsters chasing me or seductive aliens trying to enter my home only to be murderous and killing all my friends. seriously no joke. and whenever i wake up from dreams the state of mind i was in, in the dream, leaves an impression on how feel for the entire day. like if i dream of a girl and having a crush on her, when i wake up, i have a crush on that girl for that day, but not after that day. so the same things happen with nightmares. any advice on how to prevent nightmares would be amazing. keep in mind im 16.

In my experience with Dreams, They usually stem from something going on in your life. In your case, You need to examine what took place that devistated you at such a young age. Like did you move alot? Did your family have a lot of problems, That would make you feel insecure? at such a young age things like that can be very devastating to a young person. When we sleep, Our minds try to help us with the things that trouble us in our waking hours. It is the minds way of helping us cope. Now that you are 16, you are proably going through a lot of changes. I have a 16 year old son. He too is going through physical and thoughts of a teenager changes. It is a part of growing up, but at that age, esspecially if you have devasting memories of a younger age, The pattern could be repeating itself. So my advice and I hope it helps, Try and think about what is going on in your life at the moment that could be upseting you. And see if You can make changes to make it better. Also I do not know if you are a christian or not, But praying about it can 't hurt. I wish you all the best. And hope your Dreams of night mares vanish. P. S. Did you know when you are sleeping and dreaming, You have control over your dreams? Try it the next time you are having a bad dream, What ever is coming after you or causing violation or horrible things, Make the monster melt or dissapear, all you have to do is think it is happening and you will see it happen before your very eyes. lol Realy as I have done that myself. In my case I dreamt a bullet was shot and comming in slow motion to my head, I stopped it in the dream by making it fall to the floor. it does help .

You might have sleep apnea or other breathing problems that are causing you to feel a lack of oxygen. Your brain would then translate that danger into a nightmare. It's really part of a survival instinct since if the dream is bad enough you'll wake up.
Do you wake up out of breath?
Try elevating your head, checking to make sure you have good air quality and ventilation.
Good luck and Sweet Dreams!

The same thing used to happen to me where I would have nightmares and not be able to go to sleep the next night. The thing that helps me is just to try to not think about it and realize that what happened was just a dream; nothing like that could ever happen. And while I'm lying in bed I try to think of things that put me in a good mood (like food! :-))

I think you should go and buy a book "Dream Dictionary" and try to interpret them for yourself, because it is what you are feeling on your subconscious level and the message is for your conscious level!
It may be something you are doing wrong and it is trying to get you to straighten it out.
Or you could be Astral Traveling
What some people think are nightmares, they maybe just a wake up call to get your attention.

You are having separation anxiety..you are growing up and leaving home mentally...very normal, especially if dreams are about deaths of family members...This is how we grow up and out on our own. Stress will give you nightmares, but in the light of day, they really are pretty silly. Good luck

Oh come on, like if you dream of a girl, you have a crush on her for only one day. Got to hand it to you, you're good. About the nightmares, stop watching Sci-fi.

ok i used to get bad dreams when i was little this is what i did

1)pray
2)meditation~think of a peaceful, place and imagine yourself there esp when you wake up and your afraid.
3)my grandmother took me to church and i used to talk with the father~~(you can do this with any religion, or else you can tell your mom to get in touch with a counselor type)
4)sensitive people often have bad dreams, because things imprint on us/ conciously or subconciously
5)talk to people you love about your dreams~~by doing this youll release the bad energy or bad feelings associated with your dreams.
6)get a good luck charm to "chase away bad dreams (like a dream catcher or a crucifix, or a good luck totem..........
7)keep a dream dictionary handy
8)start a dream journal or diary, try to remember details and things write it down and try to figure it out~~~~dreams are specific to each individual ~~the trick is to try to figure out what messages are trying to get through~~ with a little practice youll get better~~~knowledge is power, when you start to understand your dreams the fear should subside~~~and you should feel better.......

good luck

Stress will do it every time. Take up meditation techniques to clear your mind before bed. Exercise during the day will help as well.
