Also window messenger is not running, does that have anything to do with my problem

Maybe you got the address wrong. Like for hotmail:
use @hotmail.com instead of @msn.com and vice versa
For Yahoo!: Check if your address really is @yahoo.com. It might be @yahoo.ca pr @yahoo.com.ph and such. To check, go to "My Account" < (password prompting) < under the "Yahoo! ID Card" heading, you will see a field that says
Yahoo! Mail Address: username@yahoo.com"
Check if the address really is @yahoo.com and not something else. If it is a different abbreviation and you want to change it, then click on "Edit" beside "Member Information". Under "General Preferences", look for "Preferred Content" and click on the link beside it. To change to a yahoo.com address, choose Yahoo! U.S. Follow the instructions and terms (if any) and click finished when you're done.

The email delivery system is not 100% reliable. Some time due to volume of transactions email could be randomly lost for now appearent reason.

that's normal for free email accounts except gmail
