Congratulations. You sound like you are a very successful young lady. I guess to each their own about preparation for a math class. Review how you do fractions, long division and decimals. There's also a lot of basic arithmetic: adding, subtracting and multiplying. Some teachers allow you to use a calculator during class, but I don't know about exams. Good luck, but I'm sure you'll be a success. As always, pay attention in class, take notes and do your homework.

You should browse the web for Algebra material and see how fast you can retain it.
My state, Florida, uses Glencoe books so this is a website I consult often: http://fl.glencoe.com/
They have different versions for different states, including an online textbook, examples, self-quizzes and a lot more.
You could always try Algebra out and if you can't handle the first few weeks, get a schedule change. Don't feel ashamed if you need to drop out because it happens quite often.
As for Spanish 1, I'm sure, as an A-student, you can handle it.

Better to get a lower grade in a higher class than straight A's in an easy class.
You won't wiz through the math, expect to spend at least an hour every day doing it. Highschool teachers like to assign a bunch of math problems.
Im not sure about your spanish class, but I'm told it's the easiest language to learn

how do you know you can't handle it until you've tried? Plus, if you're having trouble, there's always tutoring. This is great preparation for highschool (assuming you're in middle school). Learning to juggle things, you may as well take advantage and find out if you can handle everything while you're in middle school, before it really counts in college. I know the feeling! I'm going into junior year of high school and i have 2 AP classes, 2 Honors classes, alg 2 trig and chem! plus volleyball, basketball, and speech and debate...we're two peas in a pod. my suggestion is just relax and don't stress out. take it how it comes, do your best, and you'll be find.

Alg 1 isn't too tough if you are willing to open your mind to new ideas. It begins with a lot of review, here is an example problem from Chapt 1 of our Alg 1 book:
simplify the expression: 2x + 5y +9x
You can do that, right?
Drop sports if you must, but try not to. I would drop cheer before track. Don't stress. You are way too young to stress over school. Wait till college. lol

Well, if you're not ready, then ask to be placed in Pre-Algebra. It's a great class and you can learn skills needed to go to Algebra I. Again, he did give you a choice. If you're not ready, tell him. Teachers are not going to kill you if you say no. As for Spanish i, it's like English Kindergarten, you just learn the alphabet, songs, simple words, etc. Don't worry, you'll do fine.

okay. trust me. i am now a sophmore in high school. i had the same classes you have when i was a freshman. Algebra is a piece of cake. i was really scared too. algebra and spanish in one year. it will be kinda hard for the first few days, but it will get easier. trust me. how can it be hard for you anyway if you're a straight A student? well i think you'll do fine. it won't be hard. you'll get through it.

student stress is horrible. ive thrown up and gotten sick for days because of stress multiple times. dont worry about spanish one. if youre a straight a student expect to keep the good gpa with the spanish class. at least in NC spanish one is very easy. just basic vocab and grammar. as for algebra, you might want to prepare before school starts. i barely went on from algebra 1 because i wasnt willing to work. but now im in 11th grade about to take AP calculus and im not scared cuz now i have the working habits. my advice is, dont worry about spanish, its easy, and just to be safe, look in to algebra before school starts so youre prepared and already ahead of everyone else. dont worry about dropping track youre all good.

Just remember this:
If A = an apple
and B = a banana
and C = a cantalope
and D = dynamite
Then A + B + C + D = an explosive fruit salad!!

Dump the cheerleading. In 20 years nobody will care if you were a cheerleader anyway, but your heart will care that you did a lot of running and kept it well exercized.
Other than that, just pay attention, take good notes, and spend a lot of time studying and working problems.
