Because the other countries in the Middle East do not want to play matches/competitions with or against Israel. This is a political and religious matter.
For the Uefa Euro-competitions they did not use to participate this is only from a couple of years back I think. For the World Cup preliminaries of FIFA they use to either play in the European or Asian groups (switching every WC).

It's entirely due to the all powerful, international, jewish business lobby. If it can force governments to abide by it's every wish, the European song contest and Eufa football competitions are a pushover.

I have always wondered this.
It doesn't seem reasonable. Turkey is a bit dodgy, but at least a bit of it is in Europe. Maybe there should be a World Song Contest, but you couldn't have all the countries as it would take too long.
Perhaps it is because they aren't allowed/do not wish to compete with Middle Eastern Countries.

I know it applied to join UEFA, in the same way Uzbekistan and Kazakistan did, and assume that they asked to join eurovision.
However, I would love to see them in a 'Middle East Song Contest':
" The votes for Israel are as follows:
Bahrain -0, Iran -0, Iraq -0, Oman -0, Saudi Arabia -0, Syria -0, United Arab Emirates -0, Uzbekistan -0, Yemen-0"
:p

I think Israel joined the Eurovision Song Contest because when it first started they couldn't get that many countries to enter and they relaxed the rules to allow Israel to enter. For the sports events, maybe the European organisations just thought it would be inappropriate for Israel to have to enter tournaments with people who didn't want them to exist, so they allowed them to enter their's as a courtesy.

all European teams are eligible to play in the European competitions. ISRAEL is affliliated under UEFA since 1994 & therefore clubs in ISRAEL qualify to play in all European competitions unless the clubs are banned or suspensed by UEFA (Europe's football governing body).
on Monday, 07 August 2006, UEFA has ruled out any matches to be played in ISRAEL due to the on-going conflict in the Middle-East. all Israeli clubs will now have to play abroad at neutral venues.
