Multiple questions.
1. All states permit the wife to continue using the husband's surname. It was probably decreed as part of the divorce order. If someone wants to petition the court they can call themselves anything they want.
2. She cannot use his credit for her own. He should inform all the credit reporting bureaus of this behavior and he should monitor his credit report to see if any credit lines have been issued against his socialsecurity number,
3. If they had a house in joint name she probably is owed a share of it unless the court decree stated otherwise. The divorce documents are the source for all information since they would have dealt with the allocation of all marital property.

Your husbands ex wife can still use his surname because it's now her surname. When couples get divorced there is nothing to stop the woman keeping her married name. It depends on the womans wishes. It's a lot of hassle changing your name, so most divorced women keep it. The matter of assets is a different thing. Once divorced the ex has no say and no rights. The divorce courts settle what the wife gets and then that's the end of.

I've seen lots of divorced women keep their ex-husband's surnames. It's usually when there are children involved, but she has every right to use it, even if there are no children.
The frustrating thing about marriage is that even after a divorce, you are always connected to your ex. Someone I know is going through a divorce right now and she was told by her lawyer that even 20 years from now, if her husband has not remarried and he becomes destitute, he could, legally, go after her for support.
Of course, a pre-nup would take away most of your problems.

I have been divorced twice and I use my first ex husbands name. As far as I understand you can use any name you want to. If your husband was divorced it should have been sorted out about the properties in the divorce settlement. She has no claim to anything from after the divorce, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. But if in doubt ask your solicitor/lawyer/attorney , depending were you are lol.

I don't work in law but was under the impression that in the UK you could still call yourself for example Mrs Alison Smith, but not Mrs John Smith. However it beats me how a married woman would want to give up her identity and use her husband's surname, let alone a divorced lady.

I'm divorced and my ex-wife still has my last name but it is for the sake of my daughter and nothing more.
Anyways, yes. An ex spouse can use the surname if they desire to after divorce.
