I'm going to Venice in October and I 've made a habit of going to the cinema in cities I visit. I would appreciate recommedations to a cinema or film house. Also, are films dubbed in Italian or do they use subtitles?

There is a great cinema near the casino on the Lido, a short boatride from Piazza St Marco. Also during summer there is an open air cinema on piazza San Polo. Check with the local tourist information for details of original language films, there are lots of them

Too bad you'd just miss the Venice Film Festival - Aug 30-Sep 9 - http://www.labiennale.org/en/cinema/

Likely the location will still be showing films when you arrive:
Palazzo Querini Dubois, San Polo 2004 - Tel. +39 041 5218711 Fax +39 041 5218810 30125 Venezia
