Computer tries to go to address or link but just freezes. Stopping and refreshing sometimes works. I've tried installing latest Java software. Using IE on Windows 98. Help required please.

Don't use IE it's really slow and picks up loads of add aware try mozilla firefox much faster.

Try checking your internet connection. That happens a lot to me too. Or you can download Window XP Professional. It runs faster. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/default.mspx
If that doesn't work then try buying Comcast Internet Plan. Their internet speed is up to 10x faster than DSL.

i'd upgrade to xp, I presume your checking for viruses etc as these can slow down things pressing f5 also refreshes a slow running page.
