now i know better than this but they swear they saw it on msnbc yesterday......my first instinct was to say "liar" but i dont want to do that unless i know for sure....i would think that news like that would take up as much airtime as the presidential address but this is all ive heard of it....also i looked online and saw nothing...whats up with this news?

Pluto didn't blow up. There's a buzz in the scientific community that they are thinking of naming 3 planetoids(two moons and a very big asteroid) as planets. One of them is Pluto's moon, and they have a theory that it was created by something hitting Pluto a long time ago, maybe that's what your friend heard, and ran with that instead.
The three new planets are going to be, if they so decide:
Ceres, Charon, and 2003 UB313 (nicknamed Xena).

There has been a lot of debate as to wether or nor Pluto is actually a planet. It was decided that it is a planet and yes, its still there.

no, in fact, they are planning to add it back as a planet (pluto was demoted to just an asteroid) along with 2 others called charon and xena that will be promoted to planets in our solar system
