ice and rest for one day

Rest: don't walk on it or use it.
Ice : 20 minutes on 20 off always something between you and the ice!
Compression: an ace bandage, not too tight, make sure your fingers and toes are pink warm and wiggly when it is on!
Elevation: get your ankle and wrist above your heart.

If you are not better by morning , OR there is obvious deformity of either joint now , or your ankle will not bear weight get to the ER or doc for an X-ray. Don't let anyone tell you different, the only way to tell a fracture from a strain or a sprain is with a x-ray.

Apply heat only 48 hours after an injury. Take whatever your doctor has recommended for minor pain in the past, Tylenol, Advil but not aspirin for a sprain it can make swelling worse.

Good luck

Take an empty bottle and filled it with hot water. place it on the foor and put your sprain foot on it and start rolling it while you are seated. Keep doing this till the water temperature goes down. After this, apply some sort of heat giving ointment and wrap the injure area and take a rest. Do not wash the affected area or get in contact with water for at least 24 hours, to avoid further sweelling and complications.

time for the proffessional advise...apply ice on affected or painful area 10 mins, 3 times daily for 3 days. rest n do not over use. apply a crepe bandage or ankle/wrist support. if pain is severe take twice daily, any of regular NSAIDs.(non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.) when the pain reduces, try all possible movements, but should not aggrevate the pain. DO NOT APPLY HEAT, IT WILL INCREASE THE SWELLING. if it helps get back to me, if it doesnt then also get back to me :)

wrap it in a ace bandage to stiffen it up, and try to take it easy for a few days, staying off it as much as possible.
