Old enough to support the baby and herself for the next 20 years.
It's not just about the ability to have one, it's about the responsibilities that come along with it.
If she and the father are not prepared to give up the single life and make sacrifices for the child, then don't have the kid.
There's plenty of time to have a child and you can't go back and recapture lost youth (it's pathetic to try).

I think the decision to have baby should not be entered into with a light heart. Just because someone believes they are in love is not a reason. I think she should be of legal age and in a stable relationship (preferablly married). There are so many factors that go into having a baby. Financially is she able to care for the child? Emotionally? Spiritualy? Is her partner willing to sacrifice as well? I don't think that deciding to have a baby is a wise thing. That being said, I think that when you are ready to have a baby, you will. No amount of deciding or planning will make it happen if its not meant to.

Married. Age is less of a factor. If she's married at 18, stable, happy, and the husband wants a baby too, then go for it! But having a supportive partner is a bigger deal than age. I had my 3 kids by my 23rd birthday (26 now). First when I was 18. It wasn't always easy, but our family is wonderful. But please, be out of high school first and have a job. A baby at least deserves that much!

At least 18, but it's more a question of maturity and financial stability. Your late 20's is a good time to start. You're done with school and have gotten somewhat established in a career. Your lifestyle also changes in your late 20's, early 30's, because you don't need to party as much, or at all.
