Hi mini-kookiboo!
Horses live naturally in herds. In this setting boredom is pretty rare as there is always another horse to talk to, scratch or argue with. And out in the open there is always the worry of getting eaten, so that usually keeps their excitement levels up.
They do relax though; when you see a horse in a field with its back leg bent and its head down - this is a chilled out equine. They doze like this, and often in pairs head to tail. They flick their tails and that keeps the flys out each others eyes.
Horses only get bored when thoughtless owners keep them in a stable all day with no-one , not even a donkey, to keep them company. They are like children - they need something to keep their minds occupied.
Bored horses often rock from one side to the other, or make themselves burp! They grip the stable door and suck in air. Unfortunately this makes them get a sore tummy and damages their teeth. Owners often put a metal frame on the door - it looks like a "U" - to stop them. But what the horse really needs is company, or to be in a busy yard where there is lots to watch
I hope that answers your question!

Horses emotions aren't complex enough to get bored. Plus they always keep themselves entertained. They eat little and often, drink, walk around and look around lots. Sleep a little bit, doze a lot. Then their owners taking them for rides and grooming them... Horses are pretty neat, eh?
As she's 8, this is probably too real... The horses grow wings and fly off to meet other horses at night so they don't get bored. The lady horses (mares) turn pink and the boy horses (geldings/stallions/riggys) turn blue and they all share apples and carrots in their little parties, but when it starts to get light they all fly home and turn back into the horses we know and love. YAY!!

Neat question! Horses like to eat a bit, sleep for a bit, run around and play for a bit; then do the whole thing all over again.
They like to stand around and scratch each other, and they also play. They race each other and have pretend fights.
So they only really get bored when thy're kept in a field on their own. They hate that and try to escape to find other horses.

Good question! Do you think horses get bored? The one's at my daughter's riding school spend a lot of time eating or just walking about. They like to roll when in the fields. Perhaps they just chat to eachother about all the funny people who come and sit on them or where to get some really tasty grass.
They might discuss eachother's names and laugh at the funny ones!!
Good night!

Good morning, Kookiboo's daughter, have a great day.
I don't know about the horses thing, but with an imagination like yours, you'll never be bored!

play board games, of course. Unless the horse's throat is hoarse. What could be worst? To have a horse whose voice is hoarse and so course that he can't even eat bratwurst sprinkled with worcestershire sauce. Unless he drives a porsche, of course.

With such a mind she might be able to answer a question I was once asked by a 4 year-old: Why do cats have noses if they don't get catarrh? I never did get to the bottom of that one...

I think when horses get bored and are not happy they developp a kind of vice, a form of abnormal behaviour, that becomes a habit. On this french web page you can see a shor video of the kind of behaviour (tics in french): http://www.le-site-cheval.com/tics/tic_ours.html
Hope this helps!
