Because ... because all the silver is used by the rich who often have their babies born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Now, how this can be possible? The answer is I do not know, as I do not know many things that only the rich know. But I guess the spoon is there for the purpose of keeping babies from crying partly because silver is 'more calming' and then there is no particular reason to cry. Is there?

because gold has always been more valued than silver so if silence is that precious why not make it the most precious metal you know of. and also someone decided to say "golden silence" first instead of "silver silence" and i guess it stuck

Yes, and silence is silver sounds so much better, what with the alliteration and all that. Gold is more valuable, but I think silver is more aesthetically pleasing. From now on I'm going to start using the term 'Silence is Silver' from now on and soon it'll catch on. Good idea. Thanks.

Golden is being referred to as gold. Money!

OK i remember being at school a long long time ago 1979, we had a teacher who used to make us write lines when we spoke out of turn, speach is silver but silence is golden, note to mr Lancaster, YOU GO FIGURE. Sorry but after 27 years i had to get that one off my chest.

err not to put you all on a downer but Platinum is more precious than gold, and there is less silver than gold so soon silver will be more precious than gold. may at one time the silent room was made of gold or something like that
