be blunt dont sugarcoat it, if they're understanding they'll appreciate it if not than i would stop eating their food!

Delivering any unwelcome information demands that you be kind but direct--don't hint around. "Honey, you really aren't a very good cook." Someone needs to be the one to tell the truth, and who better than the person who really cares.
