It's a kelpie! I've never seen one, but I admit to sitting by Loch Ness in Scotland for a while hoping to see Nessie - I wonder if he/she is a kelpie...

Anyway, here are two interesting sites about them:

I've heard of them. It's said they'll be remarkably attractive in horse form, so that humans will wish to ride them. Then, they make it so that the human can't get off, and they gallop underwater. They drown you so that they can eat you. In human form, they're much like selkies; they are always wet, and usually barefoot. They're normally male. They stay near water, but never some place out in the open, like a cattle pond in a field. There's not enough cover there, and they get very antsy.

Water horse ?? Well, and what else?? Hippocampus is a lil fish where the males give birth. You know them, they swim upright and have like horse heads. Two inches tall. If translated in greek derivatives; water : potamos horse hippos, so technically a water horse 'd be a hippopotamos. What creatures men invent; it always astonish me.

Another name for a water horse is a hippocampus - this is the mythical horse(s) that draw Poseidon's chariot under the water.

Isn't a water horse a type of buffalo or a hippo. I've never seen one.

Did you see it eat the sheep? Don't throw accusations around without proof.
