I have recently relocated to small community and had relatives who used to live here. My 16 year old was introduced to to his cousins friends, who are really bad people. They have been into trouble with the law. My son has been caught up with these boys. He wants to fit in. I can't really voice my opinion any more he says that is was my fault, because we moved. He says that all the boys do is smoke, do drugs, and drink. He claims that he can not prosper because he is caught up with thsese boys now. He swears that this is what I wanted for him. What shall I do? Now he will not even go to school because he hates it. He will only go to school at the last high school he attended. which is 82 miles away from where I currently reside. what alternatives can I offer him. pleaase help.

Your son is only 16 and shouldn't be deciding he isn't going to school. YOU need to make him go to school. MAKE him cut off all communication with the bad influences. GET him in therapy. GET him in sports and if none of this is possible...consider RELOCATING again before you lose him forever. Also, tell him just because he is around asssholes, doesn't mean he should behave as asssholes. Be strong minded and do the right thing, and take responsibility for his own actions. He is not a baby and knew better so I wouldnt feed into the bullsh*t he is trying to lay on you by making it your fault.

Guilt trip. Call the school and ask them who you contact regarding truancing. The sheriff or local police may just come and give him a ride to school. Find out where him and these boys go when they should be at school. send the cops there, let them get busted. Cut off his contact with those boys. You're the parent, regain control whatever way you need to.

Don't let him guilt-trip you with the "you're the one who wanted to move" bullsh*t...I see that he already has. You're the parent here and as long as he's living under your roof what you say goes. Remind him of that. Ground his a**. Be strong, if your kids see weakness in your parenting decisions they'll milk them for what they're worth.
