I live in West LA (Westwood) sharing a 1 bedroom for $1200. I am thnking of getting my own place and my budget is $700-800 (studio or 1 bed)

Check the Palms area. I have a friend who rents a studio for about $750. Don't expect the area to be like the rest of the westside though...

Good luck witht hat budget, WLA is not cheaper than the 900 range, even for studios.

If you can commute, try something in Morovia, which is a very nice city, and close to importasnt freeways, give it a try. Also Eagle Rock, I hear it's becoming very hip, close to Silverlake, Los Feliz and has many things to do.

Start with the welfare department. They have low cost housing available, and charge 1/3 of your monthly income.
