in public after seeing them on a poster, a show like "America's Most Wanted", or the Dept of Missing Children website?

I think the people who turn criminals in after seeing America's Most Wanted are those who already know the suspect, like a neighbor or co-worker who just came into an area. I certainly wouldn't recognize anybody just walking down the street or at the store, and turn to my wife and say, "Hey, isn't that the guy they want for those bank robberies in Tulsa, Oklahoma? What's he doing in Seattle? Gimme your cell phone; I gotta call this in!"

I don't think I would. In a world where mistaken identity is one of the major problems of finding people, I don't think we could find a person on the first (or even the second) try. Most of the time, the people who get it correct are those who personally know or regularly see the people who are wanted. For me, it would be easier that way.

Only if they lived next door and I saw them regulary. Otherwise, no - unless they were CONSTANTLY on the news.
