I posted a long time ago about ready to get a ferret and I had had a few more questions. After alot of consideration and thought, I've decided against getting one. I'de LOVE one some day, after all the research I've done it seems like a great pet to have and experience. But as to anyone buying a pet they are unsure of, or just randomly going out to buy a ferret or rabbit even, it really pays off to do some research into anything exotic. Or anything that you dont know uch about, other than it lives in a cage and drinks water and eats chow. Anyways, my main point for writing here is to thank all those that responded to my ferret concerns and questions I had. It helped me make the right desicsion.

Making this decision shows that you have a good head on your shoulders. I know of an adult (with three young kids) who cried and whinned until she got a ferret only to give it to me a month later because she found a horse for $200 (it wasn't broken, thus couldn't be ridden and was a large breed, she was scared to death of it and two months later she gave that away). She now has an older ferret, that she says was given to her kids by a woman she works with. I wonder how long it will last. Anyway, my point is that you understand that you can't get one at this time, but I hope you can adopt one later. Good luck!

Good planning! My two boys wanted a ferret and I thought I had reasearched it really well. But my big concern was the smell. I have dogs and a bird...and I am very stickler about the house smelling clean. We went to Petsmart and talked to them..insane how they tell you they are descented and fixed and do not smell if you keep their cage clean. Total misinformation. After some dancing and begging from my kids the Petsmart told us we could buy a ferret and take it home, if it didn't fit in to our house we had fifteen days to return it. OHMYGOSH the STINK. We bathed them because they had never been bathed. The musky smell, that NEVER goes away. My son hugged me and he reeked of ferret musk. GAG. They poop almost constantly, which is easy enough to clean but it was toooooooo much. I was thankful Petsmart took them back, no problems. But was irritated by so many saying they don't stink. Perhaps folks should say that they have a constant odor, because if you don't like that musky smell, you won't get rid of it.
