Hokey Cokey
What with all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went unnoticed last week.
Larry La Prise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Cokey" died peacefully at age 93.
The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.
They put his left leg in... and then the trouble started.

The Hokey Pokey......what is it all about?
It Comes from the Latin phrase "Hocus est" and was part of the Roman Catholic Mass until the 1960's when the Roman Catholic Church began to use English
The Song the "Hokey Pokey", so tradition has it, was a joke song made up at the time of the Reformation by the reformers, making fun of the the rubrics of the Catholic service of Mass. Certain movements and words had to be said to make the Mass a valid celebration by the Priest. Hence the Song"You put your left in, Your left hand out..." culminating in the chorus.

To clarify:
It IS Hokey-Cokey in the UK (at least where I am). I understand elsewhere it is hokey-pokey.
It's a metaphor for life:
You don't put everything all in at the same time, it's too risky. Do things one thing at a time and enjoy the music - especially the shaking all about.
Now that's what it's all about!

You put your left arm in,
your left arm out,
In, out, in , out
shake it all about
you do the hokey cokey and you turn around
(crucial line here)
THAT's WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!!
everybody would be singing and dancing and no-one would need to worry about cake and chocolate being fattening, they'd use up all the calories in no time:
knees bend arms stretch rah, rah, rah!
