i got a bridesmaid dress altered and I have no idea what standard tailor pricing is - the amount I paid seems really high though for what it was...hoping to be more informed next time.

the next time call around to the alteration shops in your area that way you get the best price I do alterations and it depends on what your garment is made of

the cost of altering a dress can go upwards of $500, depending on what you are using it for, and the alterations necessary. For starters, never take the dress to the seamstress the store you bought it from refurs you to, second NEVER, never tell them the dress is for a wedding, because the cost doubles automatically. There was a $400 difference between the estimate the bridal salon'sseamstress was going to charge, and the actual cost we got another seamstress to fix the dress for. . Third, Always order early from the salon, if you have to order the dress, since they always seem to order the wrong size. My daughter was a size 14, but her dress acme in at size 22, and they actually said they knew she was going to get fatter before the wedding..
