I believe that 135lbs is reasonable for a 13 year old girl and that you should not get on her case about her weight. As long as she is healthy and stays in a reasonable weight range just leave her alone. There is way too much preoccupation with 13 years olds being overweight and it is disturbing. Being healthy is the most important thing not looking like a stick.

The ideal weight for 5 feet 3 inches tall is between 104-141 pounds - depending on bone structure, etc.

BMI for 5 feet 3 inches and 135 pounds is 23.9, which is within the acceptable range (18.5-24.9).

Your neice is within the normal range for both ideal weight and BMI (based on American Health Society), so I do not believe she would be overweight - she is just developing.

Your niece is fine. My duaghter is 5' 03" and was 135 lbs. She was 165 before she lost the weight. Teens tend to have a little extra weight, which will even out during puberty. That's what happened to my daughter, when she hit puberty, the weight came off. Now she's 5' 04".

No, though she is at a risk of being overweight. Make sure she gets some physical activity.

Here's a BMI calculation site that explains healthy ranges.

Keep in mind this is a tramatic, body changing age for young girls. Her body is changing and she's self concious of it now.

So long as she is active and eats well she should thin out as she finishes puberty naturally. I wouldn't worry.

You did no longer point out the age of your niece. If she eats a balanced food plan, gets standard excerise and is often good wellbeing, she's fantastic no remember what. If she eats crap sits on the pc or staring at television all day. no longer good. attempt to no longer make a huge situation anyhow you do no longer go with to create a picture concern or ingesting disease.

Depends...does she look overweight? Is she round and have a double chin rather than the skinny overgrown look that most thirteen year olds have?

PS When I was thirteen, I was 5'5 or 5'6 and didn't weight 135 lbs. And I'm a big-boned, sturdy person whose healthy weight has always been considered "overweight" on health charts, though I'm most definitely not overweight.

Noooooooooooo way!!! She is perfect! She is still young and in the last stages of puberty - so if she is a little chunky (which by no means is she) she will need it for her last growth spurt ...

The Question you should ask is why are you so concerned with her weight & how she looks ...

Sounds a little pudgy, but I wouldn't make it into an issue. If your niece hears about it, or over hears your conversation, she will most likely start to doubt her looks. That will cause self esteem issues, just leave it alone.
