Had you not specified 'movies', I would have said Star Trek as I think the TV series (the original and Next Generation) are better than the ST movies, and have more topicality, depth and substance than Star Wars, which George Lucas admits is aimed at kids. Only looking at movies is harder.

I'm astounded by Miss America's assertion that ST is more violent. Star Treks I and IV had no violence whatsoever and V had no killing. Not only does almost every Star Wars film have killing and limb-severing, but Anakin Skywalker being burned by lava after losing his legs is surely more violent than anything in ST.

Overall, I would say Star Wars based solely on the overwhelming experience of the first movie (and to a lesser extent on ESB), and the fact we are not including the TV series. Yet I have a huge affection for ST II and IV, which were among the best - and most popular - films of the 1980s.

STAR WARS!!!!!! I'm a really really big Star Wars fan, and if I had to choose between Star Wars and Star Trek it would be Star Wars, every time. I just love the story. And I think George Lucas and his team deserve a really big thumbs up. Especially for the special effects on the old movies. I mean, now with all this new computer technology, you can do pretty much everything. But back then, when they started making the first movies, the didn't have that technology, and the effects are still great. Way to go!!!

I like both but Star Wars rocks! I grew up on Star Wars and to date they are my favorite movies! I enjoy Star Trek, but not nearly as much as Star Wars. I can watch Star Wars and just get lost in the movie and it's as if I'm there with them. Star Trek is just pure entertainment. Nothing wrong with that, but it's Star Wars that does it for me!

Star Wars for lots of reasons:
1. Have great music!!!
2. no violence- well, you don't see it. Peaple just fall off the cliff, or have their hand seered off without any trace of blood.
3. No bad language
4. Strong characters that are not confusing like Star Trek. (Why does there have to be so many voyager, next generation, enterprise, deep space nine, etc..... just stick with one!)
5. No sex sences, or sexual enuendoes.
6. I like the idea about how fear, hate, anger leads to the dark side. Just like in our own life. Star Wars is a sort of religion. I would let my kids watch Star Wars, but not Star Trek.

** p.s. Though Star Trek does have some violence, sex senes, language, and confusing episodes, I do enjoy Star Trek to a point, and I ecspecially enjoyed the "next Generation" series, but I like the Star Wars better for the reasons listed above.

Star Wars obviously , the first trilogy was like the most successful movies ever made in its age actually till now it was about 29 years old and still being watched. Star Trek is like more than 40 years old and like totally not watched by any type of new generation and besides it is boring.

I like both series of movies. I was a big fan of Star trek first dating back to the Tv series. (yes, the original) And then came Star Wars and it was different but just as entertaining as Star Trek. So I became a big fan of both. .

Star Wars, definitely. After a while, the Star Trek cast was getting too old.
