It depends... any chance your boss will leave soon? If so, you might try to outlast him/her! If that's the case, just grin and bear it for a while.

If the boss isn't leaving soon, then ask yourself if you've learned enough in your current job to make someone else hire you for your skills. If not, again, grin and bear it until you learn enough to get another job.

If you have learned enough in your current job to get another one, then conduct a discreet search for another job. First step is to get a resume together that looks good to employers. When that's done, go to the web to find other interesting jobs. Monster and CareerBuilder are very good sources.

When you get an interview, and they ask you why you're leaving your current job, DO NOT say "because I hate my boss"!!! If you say that, they will say to themselves "whoaaa... this person may hate me, too!" Instead, say "i've learned all I can in my current job, there are no promotional opportunities, and I think it's now time to get some additional experience"... or something like that.

Regarding the reference, you really cannot control what your current boss says. While there are laws about what they can and cannot say without your permission, you'd have to go to court to enforce your rights and that's not practical in almost all cases. So---on your resume provide prospective employers with a list of references they can call. Include former bosses (or, at the least co-workers) on the list. Note: Before you list them, call them and tell them what you're doing. One of them can say, if called, "I do know he/she has a terrible current boss who no one would want to work for"... that way the message gets delivered that you're a good, hard worker with a bad boss, and YOU don't have to be the one to complain about your current boss.

Good luck! Hope this helps....

You could always work on the side at a home-based business until you made enough substantial income to be able to go to your boss and tell them to go fly a kite. I know quite a few people that did that very same thing. There's a lot of offers out there. Careful as some are scams. Check them out (the companies), research their products and see what other people say about them and check with the BBB (better business bureau). You never know; This might not be something you'd be interested in and it might be just the thing for you! What worked for me was www.bedavis1.mywayout.net. Good luck in finding that perfect something rather than dealing with someone you can't stand!

Why do you need his reference? Your attitude, skills, and education arent enough to get you another job? A lot of people hate their bosses and they deal with it.

That's hard but I would leave. Most employers are not ALLOWED to give out references anyway by law. Just facts... Yes, they were employed here, Yes,they were reliable,no personalities questions.

start look for other job, do not put him down as reference, find a co-worker who is close to you, put that person down as reference

I used to hate my boss.
Our egos would clash.
I have learned so much since then.

Can not give anyone else any advice.
Everyone is different.
