No TV.

It depends on what age we are talking about. In my opinion, no TV is the best answer, but some people may think it is extreme. I have done it both ways with different children and the ones who do not watch TV are MUCH easier to be around, they are more observant, they are more likely to be able to entertain themselves, etc.

(Email me if you want more details.)

I think they should watch no more than 3 hours of tv. I have known many of children, who have not been brought up with tv's in the home, and they have been the ones that have been in the highest classes at school, and have achieved the best grades. I am not saying it is only them that do that, but every person i have known not to have a tv have been succesful.. Anyway, tv is also good for learning, with all the programmes on in the morning , where they can watch , enjoy thereself and learn. However i think 3 hours is reasonable. In the other time, they should maybe be doing more physical activities, eg, Swimming , Playing around, etc.. It stimulates the mind.

Hi - why let them watch it at all? Most of the stuff on there is rubbish and a bad influence on them. The news is scarey or depressing. They get fat and sit around on there own all day instead of getting out, joining clubs, making friends, doing work, helping around the house, fresh air etc etc.
We gave our TV away five years ago and my children 13, 10 and 8 do not want one back. No, they are not weird but they are very good at finding things to do with their time.
Obviously this is quite extreme but I do think that children should not just be left to sit in front of a TV and I definitely don't think they should have them in their bedrooms. It's just totally wrong. Moderation is the answer I guess.

Depends on their age, my little girl is 15 months and very rarely watches tv, preschoolers maybe half hour or so and older a couple of hours max a day. I find there are so many better things to do, outside playing, colouring, cooking and toys. Tv influences children and not always for the better, but i think it all depends on the parents, I would rather sit with my little girl and colour or stick then sit her in front of the tv.

When my son is at school the first lot of tv he watches is at around 5pm when im home from work and thats only if he hasn't asked to go out, i also dont let him watch it an hour before he goes to bed as i feel he needs to relax as the tv just keeps him high. When he is not at school then i would say 2-3 hrs a day but we are usually doing other things and i dont let him watch tv half an hour before he goes to bed.

My preschool age daughter, gets at least three hours of exerse a day and at least 3 hours of creative activity. I spend two hours a day with her and she does some chores (set the table, clean her room).

As long as all that happens, I let her watch whatever she wants, which really isn;t much. She is trained to ant to do anything else besides that.

The point here is that kids are raised with TV as thier babysitter. Give them a better option and they will pursue other things

I'd say 2 hours in morning and 2 hours at night. Children need to be outside anyway burning off all that crazy energy that they have. The more time outdoors..the better, unless you're in a bad side of town. Also, they won't get all fat sitting aroud doing nothing all day and will be more productive individuals in the future. I believe that.

I believe TV zaps children of their ability to imagine. I am going to try having my kids pick one or two shows a day that they would like to watch, then send them outside. They are 7 and 8 years old. For younger children who can't go outside in their own, TV can be good for them. My children were only allowed to watch PBS shows in their early years. These helped teach numbers, colors etc... while giving mom a break. The other factor is that it's impossible to let kids go outside by themselves in some neighborhoods, which in turn leads to a higher TV intake. How sad that we have let our society come to this. Improve our neighborhoods and we'll get smarter, more imaginative kids who take their time to think for themselves.

read or heard from some source that an hour a day is more than enough. too long is no good for the eyes and also what your children watch should be checked for violence-free. Teaching good moral values, encourages good upbringing. too long may also hinder growth of creativity or even cause the children to lose concentration span when they grow up.

This really depends on the child. As long as they are watching educational films/television, it doesn't hurt to let them watch a few hours a day. In fact, it helped my child very much when she was little, and now she is a virtual talk-a-much. But, as I said, this depends on the child... if a child needs help in a certain area, (Ex. speech,) then get films having to do with that topic. I also think it has to do with the age they are. I wouldn't plop my child down in front of the television ALL day long, they need interaction as well!

Hope this helps you!
