nursery rhymes bring back fond memories of childhood thats why people recite old ones. http://www.rhymes.org.uk/

People tell childern the rhymes they remember being told as a kid. Not many new ones are made up, instead the same ones are passed down from generation to generation.

Because one thing about nursery rhymes or other things for kids is that they're easy to remember.
