The title "Ar$eholes in a House" wasn't quite catchy enough for Endemol's liking. LOL

Firstly, i will admit to being a Big Brother fan, im sorry, but its true. Secondly, i will concede that you are indeed correct. Such literary genius shouldn't be used in a lighthearted manner.
Regarding 1984 - dont you think Orwell was incredibly intuitive to (almost) accurately predict the things ahead? Okay, so he may have been about 10 years off the mark in some respects, but when you consider CCTV alone tapes us 300+ times a day, its a bit frightening.

I wouldn't get so tied up in knots about mere words, just think, it may entice the TV watching BB fans to pick up the novel of the same name and before they realise it's a cutting observation of a reverse utopia and a patriartic society gone Nazi, they are enjoying it and hoping that it will all work out for Winston. Or else they will be searching the BB hotlines so they can vote out Winston cos he clearly isn't having a good time in there.... you can't help it if people choose a dim life, I'd settle for more people knowing what the title is referencing, that would do me for starters!

The concept behind the show is loosely based on the book though... that the participants are constantly viewed, managed and manipulated by the producers and directors of the show.
So, the concept is sound, and valid.
But yes... it's horrible that they have turned such a classic, politically charged book, into a cheesy reality show.

i think in the more recent big brothers, big brother has become more like orwells big brother,
in essense orwells big brother was an all knowing centerally organised agency,
i think we should look at orwells predictions and worry about how many are coming true,
i wonder how many big brother watchers are aware of the original big brother and stop to think that "big brother is watching them"
well done for posing a question with real merit which is designed to make us think

In one of your answers (above) someone asked why that show was so horrible and that they watch it all the time. Frightening eh? They are a back-biting, gossiping, manipulative bunch that are (obviously) teaching that it is OK to call someone "friend" to their face and then rip them to pieces for personal gain. The "other" Orwell version of BB is equally, if not more frightening...and is alive, well and growing larger by the minute here in the good ol' US of A.

It is also sad that my son could not wear a t-shirt saying Big Brother on the day his little sister came home from hospital without people asking if it was something to do with the tv programme!

Many terms and phrases that had such great meaning and truth and realization has been altered into a meaninglesss and sometimes offensive term. All its power becomes lost.

I agree, 1984 was great, this frivolous tripe, along with all the rest of these "reality" shows are a complete waste of air time. Why are people so hooked on this stuff? Reality is all around us, it's not this crap on TV.. "reality" shows are really about as far from real as you can get without Hollywood special effects.

Very true but it fits the shows theme...in 1984 Big Brother watched everyone...and now...we get to watch people live in a house. Kind of like Big Brother.
