Sorry folks, no pictures. It flew away before I could snap one.
It looked exactly like a Blue Jay, but it was a yellowish color.
Could this have been a young Blue Jay?
Oh, I live in Iowa if that helps any.

I doubt it is a young blue jay. They look pretty much like the adults. There are many birds that look like a similar to a yellowish blue jay without a crest, but if it did have one, I would have to think it is a Great Crested Flycatcher. This is really the only bird that fits your description that frequents your area in the summer. They are a bit smaller than blue jays-8.5 inches long as opposed to 11. They have a long gray shaggy crest and a blue throat and upper chest. Their bellies are yellow and their tails are rusty red. I think they are tannish on their backs. The only other crested bird it could be would be the Cedar Waxwing. I don't think this is it, though.
