The reason I'm concerned is that the things that concern the rest of the world concern me. If we don't follow the geneva conventions, then our own soldiers are in grave danger. America was a great upholder of human rights - now we are leading the dismantling of these international standards.

Also, America is dragging her feet on global warming, endangering the whole world - including me. So, again, I care.

America is fighting imperialistic wars of aggression against poor people. George Washington hated this idea, the world today hates this, and I agree with them.

Also, when you hear americans pretending to be canadians so they don't get shot in the head at airports, you might consider a lot of people are concerned with our international reputation.

those who don't care what others think of us - is this bold independence or thuggish bullying? As the daughter of a reitred Navy career man who died in deep despair at the course his beloved country has taken, as someone who lived half her childhood overseas in the service of this country, I see this lack of caring as thuggish bullying. Or immature idiocy.

I am an American but I live and work in China. The Chinese regard Bush as being very heavy-handed in international affairs, cold in his relationship with China, self-serving and rather petty. The Japanese have a different opinion as they gooble up our economy (we only spend a billion a day in Japan) and they consider us stupid. The Indians consider the US as a place to make money and retire back to India. The French think we are a gauche and disagree with us because they are superior Frenchmen. The Canadians think of us as lacking sophistication. The Indonesians don't trust us (they even set a deadline on how soon we had to withdraw our aid workers after the major tsunami in 2004). The Australians (politicians that is) pander to Bush but the Aussies think we are pushy. The North Koreans think that the US is preparing to invade them and have issued booklets to the people to tell them how to prepare. Malaysia thinks that Bush is a jerk. Now why would you be concerned about our international reputation....we haven't one left. People look at our support of petty dictators such as Saddam, Batista, Ngo Dien Diem, and Chiang Kai Shek and wonder why we were foolish enough to be involved. They look at our military efforts in Korea (nothing was resolved there), Vietnam (we went home with our tail between our legs) and again in the Middle East. They look at the racism in America. They look at stupid issues like resolving the mess about Katrina and wonder what the hell is happening? In Asia, the philosophy is if a problem exists, then fix it...don't place blame, just do it.

Yes. Unfortunately, foreign policy is being hijacked by neocons who systematically alienate the rest of the world and have no respect for the UN. We even break international law without caring (and many people don't even know that we break international law because the right-wing media never says so).

Very. We need internatinal partners for trading, politics (just try to get another country to talk to you when your government has "dissed" them in the past), and defense (once again, try to get a hostage freed when you don't talk to that government). Sure there are ways around it, but they are usually expensive and less efficient than just having a good international reputation.

TY for the ?
I have to say under Clinton and Carter I was very concerned...not a good idea to be known as a bunch of yellow cowards who are not smart enough or brave enough to defend our country. We see what those to administrations got us.
I know in my heart Bush is right because so many hate him.
When they start loving us again I will worry again.
...They always love us when we send money don't they? lol

Yes. With the current incompetent, corrupt administration, we should all be ashamed. I feel like I live in Mexico. Anyone want to go to the Bride and Donkey bar in TJ? OH....I meant the White House.

Yes I am.
However...... the facts regarding our current state of war wont change if our popularity increases. It only means that Europe will have more sympathy the next time someone attacks us.

Sympathy is of value - but I'd rather protect our children.

well due to trade we need to look good but we have helped everyone in the past , but we have always had problems with goverments unlike our own, communism being one of the bigest then dictatorship ,it took us a few year to get involed in ww2 but we aided france and england ,what iam saying is we dont get involed unless we have to even if asked. but some of our actions might be to harsh like iraq but its alot better than killing saddam and puting a diffrent dictator in office as we have done before in other countrys.

I used to be. We're so far gone now that all I can do is put up my hands and apologize for the fools who lead my country.

I think most people around the world realize who's to blame, so it doesn't bother me too much personally.

no, but also i think that a general attitude that nobody would try to wipe out the US because of economics is erroneous thinking also ... and thinking we are number1 and nobody will ever knock us down is wrong .... the only thing to do is be sure our military is able to deal with any situation ...China mostly ... radical sand people do not scare me and neither do terrorists ... a nuclear power that has the capability to destroy us and has repeatedly threatened us with nukes does scare me.
