buying a trailer with no paper work. need to know the history and previous owner to do paperwork

where wold the vin number be. it is really hard to look under the trailer, any place else. it is a 18 ft trailer for towing rec vechiles i think

you dont run the plate.
You are allowed by law to allow a police officer to come and get the VIN number and run it, then they will issue you a new title if nobody claims it through a previously filed theft report.

If the trailer is stolen, the plates probably don't belong to the trailer.

You're local police department should be able and willing to do that for you.
