Same problem before the internet, its not the internet, its the parents. Watch what you are kids are doing, who they are with etc.

I think allowing them free range on the internet is a bad idea. They can use the internet in helpful ways that help them learn new things, but as a parent, you (the parent) must constantly monitor what your children are doing, who they are talking to, and where they are going on the internet.
You hopefully don't let your children run around town like a bunch of wild animals and have them going into book stores and looking at books they shouldn't look at, or renting movies they shouldn't see, so why allow it on the internet?

If I had kids, I would put the computer in the living room where I can see what they are doing. Set up the internet so that it will block some of websites you don't want your kids to see. Also set up guest accounts for your kids.

I think they will see it regardless of if they have internet or not.
The internet is far too useful to worry about the cons, like seeing nude pictures - which they'd probably see at a friend's house anyways.
Think of all the benefits. Learning to use technology, typing skills, information galore for schoolwork, entertainment, relaxation.

You can control their access on the computer if you're not comfortable but I think kids are bad not because of what they are exposed to but rather how they were raised and what values were ingrained in them. Which basically formulates they form of judgement in life.

Yes definitely but you are looking at just one side of the coin. Internet can be a good guy too .. it can offer tremendous wealth of knowledge and perspective the kids :)

you don't need the internet to see those bad things...
It just makes it possible to see it in your own home.

YOu can restrict sites or keywords that you don't want them to see
for example:
IE
Tools
Internet Options
Security
Firefox
Has an add on that can block specific sites

Yes, I caught my young son checking out stuff I told him not to, and we had a major battle over it.
