especially when they're out of context to their real meaning. e.g: F*ck you. This does not imply I want to have sex with you. what the f*ck? this does not mean I am wondering about sex. bullsh*t. This does not mean I am raring to talk about cow excrement. You're a p*ssy. Does not mean I believe you are comprised of female genitalia. These are all exclamatory words with the same venom as "Darn it" or "what the heck". Why do people feel they need to force their beliefs on me and affect the way I feel comfortable communicating, wtf?

You actually answered your own question when you offered examples. There's nothing (inherently) dirty about sex, so if "f*ck" only meant sex, it wouldn't necessarily be dirty. In the same way, there's nothing dirty about a vagina, but when you say p*ssy, that's not what you mean. It's precisely because that's not what you mean that the words are befouled.

The words you list are foul because they're meant to express something insulting or unpleasant. Sometimes something is so unpleasant that "curse words" are the only acceptable words. So the words you listed are not inappropriate in all contexts.

In reference to your final question, what gives you the right to force your communication style on others who are not comfortable with the words you want to use?

It's just something society has deemed inappropriate. I agree with you, it doesn't make sense. "What the heck" and "What the ****" mean basically the same thing, only one is considered more vulgar. The places like yahoo edits cuss words is that it offends some people, and they want everyone to be happy. The real question is 'why does it offend people'? And I have no idea why. They're just words.

Curse words are dirty because they either refer to something inherently dirty (****) or because society recognizes the term as a vulgarity. LIke why does money have value...it's because we agree it does, not because each dollar is backed by gold (the gold standard went away in the early 1900's). So, we agree that certian words like "****" are dirty while "vagina" is fine in certain contexts. Also, dirty words usually have hard constants (lots of "K" sounds)...it would be hard to make "Sweet" (a soft word) sound bad. Even let's say if you were callign someone gay, screaming "you're sweet" just doesn't do it.

because thats just society today. imagine it a hundred years ago. if i say "sucks" in front of my grandma she freaks out! i feel the same way you do. i feel these are just simply words and i will express myself when and how i want. though i do refrain when around grandma, kids, and people i know it offends. i dont forbid my children from saying "crap" or "suck" or "pissed off" like most parents do, but thats just my choice. however if one of them came up and said "f*ck" i would first turn around and laugh so they couldnt see me, but then go on to explain how they sholdnt be using that kind of language at their age. see i guess that goes to show ya its different in every situation. but thats just MY opinion :)
