I think you should have asked about matting habits so you can talk about interesting things instead of funny things.
Females experience heat (called estrus) every six to eight months, and only during ovulation (called standing heat) are they receptive to males. Unlike humans, this is the only period when they have sex so there is no "just for pleasure" sex.
Males recognize estrus by smell. They fight each other to ensure that the strongest gets to mate first (unless of course the owners are in control of the situation). The females show willingness by a coy attitude and by flagging their tail to the side. During intercourse, males penis swells so they remain "tied" together for a while (up to one hour). This seems to be a way to guarantee that only one male (the first to mate) will fertilize all the eggs.
