And would you say that crying during a good movie is being sensitive in comparison? What about shedding a few tears while reading a good book, or viewing an intense painting in a museum?
As mentioned in at least one of the above answers, video games are indeed a form of art. It takes quite a bit to stir up someone's base emotions. I wouldn't consider it "nerdy" at all; rather, I'd be intrigued to see what type of game is capable of evoking that kind of reaction.
When I played Resident Evil for the first time on the Playstation, its atmosphere freaked me out. It was well created and played on quite a number of "fear" aspects. The recently-released game F.E.A.R. elicits a similar response from me.
I've run across a number of games with storylines so intricately crafted and placed in conjunction with amazing artwork/animation that has brough out all TYPES of emotions from me. Aeris' death in Final Fantasy was definitely one of those moments (no, I didn't cry, but I stared in shock and had that shiver go up my spine).
Rather than consider someone "nerdy" for expressing their feelings, you should instead be congratulating the artists, writers, animators, and coders for doing such an amazing job on a newly created piece of our culture (yes, like it or not, video games are VERY MUCH a part of our culture).
I feel sorry for those people that are so blinded by what "art" is supposed to be that they easily gloss over anything that doesn't fit their criteria for art...
...and if any of those type of people consider themselves to be artists, then maybe they should either broaden their horizons or rethink their careers.

That doesn't make you nerdy, that makes you obsessively involved in a fantasy. I.E. you are spending TOO MUCH TIME in this game. Take a step back to realize that games are not real, and losing the mission is not a big deal. It's just a game. A game you can save. And come back to later. And try again. You can't do that with life, man. Come on. Where's the priority?

No, many video games are on the cutting edge of art. If you've ever seen a Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus die, you might be inspired to shed a few tears, but in a completly un-nerdy sense.
But if you cry over some Japanese RPG then yes, you are a mega nerd

Do you mean crying because of the story? I will admit in Final Fantasy 7, when Sephiroth stabbed Aeris and killed her off it choked me up and brought tears to my eyes.
