Hi!

Here is a great website about the Renaissaance. It has information about everything, including the clothing and food w/ recipes.

http://www.twingroves.district96.k12.il.us/Renaissance/GeneralFiles/Introduction.html

You can also check out the "town"...
http://www.twingroves.district96.k12.il.us/Renaissance/Town/Town.html

If you visit the food table, you will see links to...
Breads
Cheese & Egg
Soups and Meats
Vegetables
Staples and Seasonings
Desserts
When you click on one, it will take you to a page where you can find recipes for the types of food listed.

Other ideas... hmmm... Maypoles are always fun to do...

You could try to learn some Renaissance Peasant dances and teach them at the party... There should be books and videos out there. (I had to learn them when I worked at the Renaissance fair and they were easy- the circle dances were anyways). Try to learn the easy dances and then teach them at the party. It should be fun... or at least funny to watch.

For a more formal dance...
"One dance for couples, a form of the Galliard called Lavolta, involved a rather intimate hold between the man and woman, with the woman being lifted into the air while the couple made a 3/4 turn."

Here is the wikipedia site. It has directions on how to do the Lavota, but you will have to learn the Galliared first (try to find that on the internet)... and I guess you can watch an accurate version of the dance in the movie Shakespeare in Love when Joseph Fiennes is playing William Shakespeare and Gwyneth Paltrow is Viola De Lesseps. Perhaps the music for the dance will be on the soundtrack and you won't have to worry about anyone playing the music.

I hope this helps... Good luck with your party!

Well,
"Lady Peacock" for the best-dressed girl in costume.
"Lord Popinjay" for the best-dressed guy.

I'm not sure. What else are you doing? What other things are in the auction? Is there something similar for males? That'd be King for the Day. How fancy are we getting, here? Dancing and such, or just a regular themed party? Musicians? I mean, look up the stuff on chivalry; that's tell you what awards and rewards were called back then.
