Many award shows have tricks like that. Ever think of Jessica Alba as being one to be nominated for an Emmy? She was. Why? To get her fans to watch the Emmys. Award shows also use filler people whose job it is to set in the seat when somebody is going to the bathroom. Why? to make it look like the room is always packed.
