If you ask your tutors are there to guide you, if you get lost doing anything ,the thing to do is to take stock of your position, start by sitting down and do some honest self evaluation, this is a lot harder than it sounds, a method i have used in the past ,is to mind map my thoughts, a large sheet of paper and a pencil or a blackboard and chalk, whatever you have to hand , draw a circle put ME in the circle
draw a line to another circle coming off your original me, put into that your medium, or your genre, already you have made a desicion, carry on building your circles and lines coming off a circle where you feel it should go ,eg in the genre circle you may have written portrait, try to write change in a circle next to it, put ideas that you can try eg change next to portrait oils next to pastels next to landscape, you get the idea, this will give you clear options to try, you dont have to be so radical, to completely change, a simple change of scale can have a dramatic effect upon your work and will change your perspective on your own work, remember what degas said ''art is not what you see,it is what you make other people see''.
sometimes we need to get lost in order to find ourself.
good luck LF

probably the best course of action is to play to your own strengths, evaluate your work (and articulate it in your sketchbook (most important of all)) and decide how to use your research to your own ends, In my proffessional artistic career (and as a lecturer) I have encouraged students to create such diverse works as Picasso-esque maps of the London underground, plaster cast graveyards with inscribed poems in an Andy Worhol style etc etc.
Really you need to juxtapose your research/found element/personal favourites with your brief or project and just let your imagination fly...
But solid writen comments and evaluations are a heavy weighting in the A2 marking...
