Annulment is a legal procedure for declaring a marriage null and void. Annulment differs from divorce where the court ends an otherwise legal marriage on a specific date.
In strict legal terminology, annulment refers only to making a voidable marriage null; if the marriage is void ab initio, then it is automatically null, although a legal declaration of nullity is required to establish this. The process of obtaining such a declaration is similar to the annulment process.

Anullment is when a marriage is declared invalid. Please be assured that as much as it hurts now, you WILL feel better about it in time. Know that millions have been there before you and survived and even moved on to better lives. You may not believe it at the moment but most things that happen to us in life teach us something profound. Look for the message and move on in a positive way. Good luck.

An annulled marriage means essentially that the marriage was never valid. This would also carryover to the children - they would then become illegitimate!(That's me)
This is different from a divorce. An annulment means that the individuals were never united in marriage as husband and wife.

I don't think that charges can be annulled -- annullments are for marriages, not crimes. If you plead guilty and it can't be expunged or sealed, then you're out of luck, because expungement or sealing the record is the ONLY way to make it not come up on background checks (and sometimes it will still come up after it's expunged).

Annulled means that the marriage is cancelled, and didn't/doesn't exist in the eyes of the Church.
It's very difficult to get a marriage annulled these days.

Null and void...the marriage never happened. Most of the time an annulment is granted if the couple has been married less than a year.

Marriage was never consumated...fulfilled. Thus the marriage was 'cancelled'. But that, in fact, would be rare. Usually marriage is actually consumated before AND after the vows.

If you apply for an annulment in the Catholic church, and if it's granted, then it's as if the marriage never existed in the first place.
