You could try theatrical make up. The stuff people wear onstage. But I can't guarantee it won't look or feel pancake-y. You could always try asking a Beautician. There's one at my local pharmacy who's always ready to help. If that fails, you may want to re search it a bit online.

There are several routes you can go here. One is to keep doing what you're doing, going through make up on your own. Look for samples at the store, some may have it for you to compare.
The other, is to find someone who sells either Avon,Mary Kay, or merrell norman cosmetics. Why? because they usually carry samples and that way you can experiment and see what will work best. Leggets or Belks who have the Clinique brand may also be able to help you do this type of testing without having to buy the make up until you find what works. They usually do free makeovers if you ask.
Thirdly, you can write the company who makes the brand of make up you used. They may still have some they are willing to sell to you or be able to tell you where to get it.
Also, don't forget the Dollar Tree stores, as they do close out products. You may be able to find it there somehow. Always a chance.
Another thing you can do is talk to someone in theatrical makeup. These are techniques people in theatrics can usually do quit well. When I was in college I helped with the makeup of some beauty pagent participants. I covered up all the spots on their legs that they hated.
The reason I'm saying try to find someone locally, is because they can help you judge the best way to hide the spot. It's difficult to tell someone how to do it if it's just via online.
The basic thing is to lighten the spot gradually and make it blend in with your orgional skin color. That's going to take some work.
If you ever decide to go the surgical route, dr.'s can get rid of most of the birthmark, if not all of it, just via a little laser light. It's usually quick and it's outpatient, but it usually takes serval treatments. I don't know the price range, but if this is really bothering you, this may be the route you want to go eventually.

I am assuming it is red, me neice has a red mark and she uses a green moisturizer from Physician Formula and a green pot of stuff, it is square, kind of like a thick fondation. It covers the red completely and you don't even know she is wearing it. The green and the red make it look like a natural skin tone, and it is cheap. You can get it at walgreens and try it, it is maybe 5-10 bucks at most

I have some scars and it is the only thing that hides them and still looks natural. It's pretty amazing stuff.

Exuviance sold at Ulta. It's supposed to cover very well, I think just as well as Dermablend without being as heavy. I know that they have concealer made just for the body.
