I am thinking about becoming a Mary Kay consultant? I like the product myself. I've read some bad things about the company on a site called marykaysucks.wordpress.com. Does anyone know if the product is actually better and why? What about the dynamics of the company and the sales force? I'm interested in hearing as many experiences as I can.

I am currently selling Mary Kay. I started out full force doing as much as possible. Now have eased up a bit and I am just taking care of the customers I already have. And of course I wear my pin, and carry my bag around, and if anyone stops me, I dont turn them away. That is the really nice thing about Mary Kay. You can do as much or as little as you choose. I think the important thing is just to let whoever recruits you and your sales director know exactly what you want to do with your business. That way they can help you along accordingly. I didn't let my sales director know when I wanted to ease up, and so she was still pushing me to do as much as I was at first. But then when I let her know that I wanted to do less for the time being, she was very understanding. Now I just call her if I need to. I know you'll hear lots of bad things about Mary Kay as well. But I think that a lot of the problem comes from consultants not being completely honest with their sales directors about what they want to do, or just putting their foot down and letting their sales directors know that they will work their business how much or how little they choose to work it. The sales directors are there to help you and motivate you. If you arent honest with them about what you want to do, then they have no way of knowing, and are going to continue to try to motivate you to do as much as possible. It is wonderful for earning some extra cash though. You cant beat keeping 50% of your sales. Anytime I need some extra money. I just hold a class or do some facials. And there it is. Money in hand. Hope this helps. Also know that when you sign your agreement you are only agreeing to sell Mary Kay for the specified prices and not more. There is no binding contract saying that you have to do any minimum amount of sales or anything. Its all up to you as to what you want to do with it. You can email me if you have any other questions. I'd be more than happy to help you out!

I sell Mary Kay and don't know anything real bad about the company or product. Personally, being a low income mom, my first thought is that it's real expensive. After trying the product I realize that it's SO worth the money. It may cost more than Cover Girl or Maybelline but it lasts a lot longer and is much better quality. Besides, there's a 100% money back gaurantee! No matter what!

To join the company all you need is $100. That gets you a starter kit with enough supplies to hold several facials. The average facial can sell at least $200. You get 50% of that as pure profit. When you make your first order, you must spend $200 to earn the 50% consultant discount. Any order after that for 3 months you have the discount even if you only spend $50 on your order. You don't have to buy inventory to get started. I didn't. I would tell the customer that they'd get their product within 10 days. Any order after that I would have it on hand. I now have $3600 worth of inventory.

The $200 order every 3 months is the only requirement to remain active and receive the discount. You don't get penalized for not meeting quota with facials. This summer I didn't do anything except fill a couple of orders for current clients. It's not a problem. How much you earn, though, depends on how much you work your business. It's very possible to earn even $1,000 a week.

My email is lafulita76@yahoo.com if you have any other questions.

Just know that if you do become a consultant, things will probably not be handed to you on a silver platter. Your director can help you, but you've really got to put in the work before you can get the money. Think about it as your job, work at it a little every day, and stay organized. Then you will do well. My director likened it to getting a degree. A lot of people will tell you "I knew a MK lady and she didn't make any money and nobody would buy from her, blah blah blah, etc." Well, a lot of people also go to college and decide it isn't for them or flunk out. Would that stop you from going? Of course not! If they'd been committed to it they would have graduated and if you are committed to Mary Kay it will work for you.

I believe that Network Marketing is the most lucrative job out there. It's the only way that normal, blue-collar people can actually really become millionaires in 3 years (ethically and morally). The trick is getting in with the right company. You hav eto find a company that has exceptional products, is not over saturated, and MOST importantly..has great leadership. I have found that company and it works (my upline is making 36,000 a month after only 2 years!!! You should consider getting into Arbonne International. Swiss made, no animal testing or by-products, revolutionary health, skin care and beauty products, Mercedes-Benz car program. We get paid 4 times more than any other business like ours. Only $29 to start w/ no monthly amt. to purchase. It truly is a life changing opportunity. (personal development, awesome friendships, fun trips, great car, financial freedom, being in charge of your own time) If you want more info or to talk, please email me at ArbonneSteph@gmail.com and we can exchange #'s..Good Luck and God Bless

I generally take everything I read on the internet with a grain of salt. Why not get in touch with your Mary Kay rep and see what she has to say on the matter?
As for the product, as a rule, with cosmetics, the more expensive it is, the better it is. Really, for selling it, all that matters is that you like the product and think it's great.

If you like the Mary Kay products and have the enthusiasm for them - then you will be fine.

Otherwise - drop the $100 for the kit and just do the minimal order for yourself every 3 months.
